 01)What is performance management system?

According to the Aguinis,2009 the Performance management system is "It is a continuous process of identifying ,measuring and developing the performance of individual and aligning performance with the strategic goals of the organization

According to the handbook of Performance management by Michael Armstrong   is "Performance management id the management is the continuous process of improving performance by setting individual and team goals which are aligned to the strategic goals of the organization, planning performance to achieve the goals ,reviewing and assessing progress, and developing the knowelge, skills and abilities of people."

The capacity of a business to monitor employee performance is dependent on its performance management system. The PMS will assist in determining the demands or characteristics of the personnel. Several examples include analyzing accomplishments, strengths, learning from failures, possibilities for growth and development, improving individual performance, and cleaning up faults.

An effective performance management system requires a commitment and dedication from the human resources  department and managers and employees.

The elements of the PMS cycle as follows,

1.Setting Objectives
2.Measuring the performance.
3.Feedback of performance results
4.Reward system based on performance outcomes
5.And amendments to objectives and activities     (Mabey et al,1999)

According to the Salman et al,2005 there are two theories  underlying the concept,

1,The goal setting theory

Edwin Locke has suggested the concept in the year 1968. According this theory, an employee's personal goals play a vital part in encouraging him to achieve greater accomplishments. This is due to the employees' self - motivated team of their goal. They either improve their performances or update the criteria to make them more reasonable if the established objectives are not achieved. If the performance improves, the aims of the performance management system will be accomplished.

(Salman et al ,2005)

2.The expectancy theory

Victor Vroom had developed his idea in 1964. This theory is predicated on the premise that people alter their behavior in the workplace due to the possibility of attaining their desirable results. Individuals alter their conduct in such a manner that they are more likely to achieve their objectives. This idea underpins the concept of performance management, as it is thought that expectations regarding future developments impact properties.
